The Full Story
I love learning. Ever since I was a child, I’ve wanted to know how, and more importantly why, the world works. Who are the different people that make up the world? What are the niche communities that make up society? Learning is at the center of every film, even if it's not obvious.
It’s this passion for discovering new things that is the driving force behind every film I create. As a documentary filmmaker, I get to become a part of so many different communities. Whether it be learning to cook food, learning about what it takes to be a mortuary archeologist, or learning how to survive in the woods, my films are always motivated by curiosity and exploration. Learning doesn’t always have to be straightforward. We learn from documentaries in many ways, sometimes directly being relayed information, but sometimes subconsciously gaining social information. There are so many wonderful stories in the world that people simply have no idea even exist. My goal is to uncover these stories and to share them with the world.
I started this goal during my time as an undergraduate film student at University of Denver. My senior thesis followed my grandmother as she taught me how to make traditional Greek dishes. During graduate school, I’ve let my curiosity lead me to new subjects. I’ve explored the intricacies of uncovering skeletons, the beauty of a ghost town, and the realities of surviving in the wilderness. Though these may seem like a random assortment of films, they are all connected by one major thread- I learned something new while making them.
